My little conversation with someone about developers and content

From time to time, people ask me, “Why don’t you create content about your work? It’s a great way to market yourself.” I completely understand the question — in today’s digital world, visibility often translates to opportunity. However, my response tends to surprise them.

My little conversation with someone about developers and content

Every now and then, someone asks me, “Why don’t you make content about your work? It’s a great form of marketing.” I understand where that question comes from — after all, we live in a digital age where visibility often equals opportunity. But my answer usually surprises people.

I smile and tell them this: “You see those developers who constantly post about their projects on TikTok or Instagram? Most times, they’re not deeply immersed in large-scale or complex systems. And even when they are, the projects they showcase are often quite minor. Once you start working on demanding, enterprise-level projects, you realize there’s barely any time left for content creation.”

It’s not about looking down on those who share their work — in fact, I respect them. Content creation takes effort, creativity, and consistency. But there’s a reality that many developers who’ve worked on production-level systems, large infrastructures, or sensitive financial applications understand: the deeper you go into complex engineering, the less time you have for show-and-tell.

When you’re dealing with critical systems, debugging complex logic, managing integrations, or ensuring data security and scalability, your focus shifts entirely to delivery and performance. At that stage, every minute counts, and priorities naturally change.

Another reason I don’t create content is time — or rather, the lack of it. My schedule is already packed with development, reviews, planning, and learning new technologies. The few free moments I have are better spent resting, recharging, or thinking about how to make my next solution better.

I believe there’s a difference between working to be seen and working to deliver impact. For me, results speak louder than social media visibility. My projects, clients, and codebases are my true content — they might not be trending online, but they’re making a difference in real-world systems.

So, while you may not see me dancing on TikTok or breaking down my workflow on Instagram, know that I’m somewhere behind the screen, solving complex problems, writing real code, and building meaningful products.

In the end, everyone has their own way of expressing their craft. For some, it’s through content; for others, it’s through creation. I just happen to fall in the latter.
